NORTHWIND 100
The Northwind 100 wind turbine with good incentives can deliver cost-effective, reliable power to grid-connected systems. Providing 100 kW of rated power, the NorthWind 100 uses advanced technology, such as permanent magnet generator and gearless design, to maximize the ROI on small- to mid-sized wind energy projects when factoring in O&M.
  • good reliability and low maintenance
  • good wind energy capture
  • good system availability
For someone who is looking for a low maintenance machine this is certainly a candidate. Not an inexpensive machine. For those looking for more bang for the buck please see our Endurance 3120 Series.

This turbine is ideal for:
  • Small industrial sites
  • Small communities and municipalities
  • Schools
  • Commercial farms
  • Remote village wind-diesel power systems
Sales, Installation, service, eligible for USDA REAP

                        THE 2.2 MW Wind Turbine

The Northwind 2.2 uses an innovative
permanent magnet generator that is directly coupled to a high-performance rotor with individual blade pitch control. The advanced design of the Northwind 2.2 delivers the performance and reliability advantages of a direct drive configuration with comparable turbine mass, shipping logistics, and installation crane requirements as typical geared wind turbines. The full-rated FlexPhase power converter connects the generator output to the utility grid, and allows the Northwind 2.2 to meet the latest grid interconnect and fault ride through requirements, and allow operation even on weak utility systems.

Increased energy production: The slow-speed, permanent magnet generator offers superior efficiency at partial power operation compared to typical doubly-fed generators found in wind turbine applications. The FlexPhase power converter is also designed for increased efficiency over a wide power output range, and is carefully matched and optimized to the generator characteristics.

Reduced O&M cost: Elimination of the gearbox in the direct drive Northwind 2.2 design avoids a major source of maintenance and replacement expense associated with today’s typical wind turbines. The Northwind 2.2 design eliminates the many bearings and gear contact areas in the load path of a geared turbine. The Northwind 2.2 is also equipped with an onboard service crane, and is designed for easy serviceability of major subsystems without the need for a mobile crane.

Trouble-free grid integration: The Northwind 2.2 meets stringent utility interface requirements across global markets and is easy to interconnect, even in applications with weak grid characteristics. Technology enhancements and capabilities include:

  • FlexPhase power converter designed from the ground up
  • Zero voltage ride-through
  • active and reactive power control
  • patented PowerRouter control

Easy shipping and installation logistics: The Northwind 2.2 is designed with shipping logistics and ease of installation in mind. The Northwind 2.2 requires no additional shipping logistics or installation crane lift requirements as compared to typical multi MW class turbines on the market today.

Advanced turbine control: The Northwind 2.2 uses state-of-the-art control systems to minimize loads, increase energy capture, and maximize system availability. Some of the control features include:

  • Individual blade pitch control
  • Active tower damping control
  • Turbine subsystem distributed control using hardened fieldbus system
  • Fleet level monitoring and control through integrated SmartView management system
